Hybrid activism: paths of globalization in the Brazilian environmental movement

Abstract

This chapter makes the case for 'hybrid activism', seen as a hybrid between local and global action. The cases from the Brazilian environmental movement show how hybrid identities, meanings and trajectories of mobilization are built through two mechanisms identified in Tilly바카라 사이트™s (2005) discussion of inequality. 바카라 사이트˜Emulation바카라 사이트™ takes place when local actors 바카라 사이트˜reproduce organizational modes already operating elsewhere, importing configurations바카라 사이트™, while 바카라 사이트˜adaptation바카라 사이트™ happens when local actors use existing models, but also invent procedures.
