Temporary storage of waste produced somewhere else (NWFD 3 exemption)

This exemption allows you to temporarily store waste you have produced when working away from your normal business premises.

About this exemption

Some waste exemptions do not need to be registered. They are called non-waste framework directive (NWFD) exemptions. NWFD exemptions relate to gathering waste and storing it temporarily.

You must comply with the terms and conditions.

You do not pay for this exemption.

NWFD 3 applies when you produce waste while working away from your site. Examples include a medical or veterinary practice, or a builder.

Activities you can carry out

Storage

You can store waste for up to 3 months. You must have control over the site where you바카라 사이트™re storing the waste.

You can store at:

  • a depot or other storage site
  • your normal business premises

Amounts you can store

At any one time you can store up to:

  • 50 cubic metres of solid waste
  • 1000 litres of liquid waste

All waste must be stored securely. This means it cannot escape its container and the public cannot access it.

Liquid waste must be stored in a container with secondary containment.

Secondary containment means there바카라 사이트™s a system to stop liquid that바카라 사이트™s leaked from the first container, from escaping the place where it바카라 사이트™s being stored or treated.

Types of waste

You can store any waste you have produced that does not contain:

  • unbonded asbestos
  • any substance that has a flash point of less than 21°C

If you store more than one type of waste, the different types of waste must not be mixed.

Treatments

You can carry out some treatments on the waste to make storage and collection easier.

The treatments must not change the characteristics of the waste.

Examples of such treatments are:

  • compacting paper and cardboard, to increase the amount that can be stored in a container
  • shredding papers
  • separating recyclables such as card, plastic and glass into separate containers

Activities you cannot carry out

You cannot:

  • store or treat waste for someone else
  • mix different types of waste
