Details

The company, a subsidiary of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), is responsible for the 100 year programme to clean up the Sellafield nuclear site, in Cumbria.

Its Annual Review of Performance 2017/18, published today, details a year of achievement in the hazard and risk reduction programme at the UK바카라 사이트™s largest and most complex nuclear site.

Highlights include:

  • completion of a programme to cut access holes into the Pile Fuel Cladding Silo, allowing access to its full waste inventory for the first time
  • start of demolition work on one of the site바카라 사이트™s tallest chimneys
  • installation of the first waste retrieval machine in the Magnox Swarf Storage Silo, bringing waste retrievals a step closer
  • construction and opening of a new store for intermediate level waste
  • switching on of a new evaporator for highly active liquor

Paul Foster, chief executive officer, Sellafield Ltd, said:

This momentum is being maintained into 2018/19 as we build towards the successful completion of reprocessing operations at the Thorp plant, which will represent a watershed moment in Sellafield바카라 사이트™s history.

The 바카라 사이트 underlined its commitment to the nuclear industry during 2017/18 with the publication of the Nuclear Sector Deal.

A partnership between the public and private sectors, it aims to keep nuclear cost-competitive and sets a target of 40 per cent female participation in the industry by 2030.

Mr Foster added:

We welcome the Nuclear Sector Deal, particularly its commitments to a gender-balanced workforce and ensuring decommissioning costs remain affordable. We look forward to playing our part.
