Draft regulations published for consultation: variable mandatory speed limits M5 J4a to J6
Draft regulations to introduce variable mandatory speed limits as part of a proposed upgrade of the M5 (junctions 4a to 6) to a smart motorway, have been published today (3 March 2014) for consultation.
As part of the potential improvements planned for the M5 near Worcester, variable mandatory speed limits would be used to manage traffic speeds and help reduce congestion, whilst enabling safe operation of the motorway.Introducing the variable mandatory speed limits on the motorway requires new regulations.
New draft regulations have been published for comment as part of the six-week consultation which starts today (3 March 2014) and will finish on 14 April 2014.
The consultation pack has been sent to key stakeholders, such as local authorities, transport associations and emergency services. The M5 J4a to J6 smart motorway scheme is in the early stages of development. Work starting on the proposed smart motorway scheme is subject to completion of the statutory processes, including environmental assessments, funding being confirmed and continued value for money.
