Low carbon fuels in transport
How using low carbon fuels can reduce transport greenhouse gas emissions.
Low carbon fuels (LCFs) are a diverse range of fuels that reduce greenhouse gas emissions across their lifecycle when compared to conventional fossil fuels.
These fuels are an important part of the UK바카라 사이트™s transport decarbonisation strategy, particularly in sectors where alternatives like electrification are not yet viable; such as aviation, shipping, and heavy-duty road transport.

Low carbon fuels support schemes
LCFs are supported primarily through 2 government schemes, the:
- Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation (RTFO)
- Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Mandate
The RTFO and SAF Mandate require fuel suppliers to ensure that a certain amount of the fuel they supply are low carbon fuels that meet eligibility criteria set out by those schemes.
