Lewisham revitalised with £19 million Levelling Up funding (Levelling Up Fund 2)
Over £19 million from the Levelling Up Fund will regenerate Lewisham town centre.
Levelling Up funding will support three projects that will provide new jobs, boost the local economy and create a better town centre for local people. Â
Revitalising Lewisham Market Â
The historic market will be transformed to support local traders and encourage new visitors. Â
Improvements to the market include:Â Â
- changing the layout of the market to provide more pitch space for traders, make it more attractive for customers and with better waste facilities.Â
- new environmentally friendly canopies to extend the market outside current trading hoursÂ
- new paving, lighting and benches around the market to make it a more inviting and inclusive place to meetÂ
Levelling Up funding will also support the refurbishment of the iconic Grade II listed Clock Tower.Â
A new culture and business hub at Lewisham LibraryÂ
Lewisham Library will be renovated into a new Culture and Business Hub that includes:Â Â
- more space for books and other library servicesÂ
- Lewisham Lounge, a new community space for exhibitions, attractions and socialisingÂ
- workspace for local businesses and students Â
- a new rooftop bar and ground floor caféÂ
A better-connected high streetÂ
Lewisham High Street will become better connected, attractive and safer with:Â Â
- upgrades to current road crossings and the creation of new road crossings improving the area for pedestriansÂ
- new trees and green space for people to enjoyÂ
- improved entry routes for cyclists Â
- a new mobility hub for cyclists and electric vehiclesÂ
- better lighting and CCTVÂ
